Had bought a typical intro flat pedal from my bike store. Bought Five Ten Freerider Pro shoes and still didnt have the grip I expected. Invested (they are expensive) in these and was seriously surprised at how much difference they made on trail. Well made. Look awesome and made far more difference in grip than mountain bike shoes did. Ride 8 - 10 miles of trail 4 to 5 days per week.I am a clipless pedal (SPD) type of guy, but I felt I needed to switch to flats to further progress my MTB skills. I find that these pedals work great, look great, and with the right shoes could with these pedals, my feet start really planted.Arrived promptly; items as described. Seem to be a bit clingier (in a good way) that my Saints. I really like this platform pedal!Although I do not have a wide variety of experience with flat peddles, I've been mountain biking since mountain bikes were invented and these are the best peddles I've ever owned. It seems the slop on the spindle in an earlier model has been rectified as mine do not have any play. I just rode them in Moab on the Klein Attitude Race hard tail I've been riding for 25 years and it made such a huge difference I'm ordering a second set for another full suspension I own. I cannot speak to durability at this point. The traction screws are very grippy and the platform fits my size 12 feet extremely well, although these pedals may be larger than you need if you have very small feet. They are very rigid and yet very thin compared to spds and so I gained a quarter inch or so of clearance and was also able to lower my seat the same amount. One nice aspect of the traction screws is that they tend to hit rocks as opposed to the peddle structure when tolerances are close and so far have protected the beautiful anodizing better than expected. The screws are very sharp and tend to scratch up or destroy anything else they come into contact with so you may want to remove the pedals or cover them during transportation. Some folks have had problems with their legs getting munched but I had no such problem; maybe not the best idea for bar leg beginners. That being said, it is very easy for me to lift my feet off of these peddles and reposition them while riding. Note that installation requires an allen instead of a normal wrench. Here's to hoping they hold up!Easy to install, light weight, low profile, and plenty of adjustment in the pins to get the shoe fit/retention you want. It comes with replacement pins and washers to adjust the height. I used these in combination with a set of FiveTen Freerider shoes and it was quite the interface. I am doing mostly XC / CC / trail riding and the world is mostly flat in Michigan. I can't speak to feet staying on pedals while dropping off rocks or flying off jumps, but there is plenty of stick while bouncing through rock gardens and over roots. I never had an issue with my feet bouncing off the pedals, though I do think some adjustment is necessary in the pin arrangement and height. With these pedals and my chosen shoes there is no "float". If my foot feels a bit out of alignment I can't just move it. I have to physically pull my foot off the pedal, look down, and place it exactly where I want it. This can be dangerous while moving down a twisty trail. Of course I'm gifted with a rather duck-footed stance and always seem to need to adjust my feet for comfort. Others may never experience this issue.Color-wise these are a bit less bright/vivid in person than the image shows. Regardless, I can't stop admiring the pedals. I think they are fantastic.I bought these pedals for my new Pivot MTB. The SRAM Eagle cranks are carbon and I use the boots to protect them on rock hits. When I mount these pedals with the boots the platform makes contact with the boots. You will need to get a few extra washers per pedal to get the clearance required to move the pedal platform's Q factor away from the crank and not make contact with the boot. The pedals are OK but I've noticed that they lack the grip found in my hardtail's Deity Bladerunner. I find those to be much better platforms that offer more grip. These are probably the biggest flat pedals out there. They are huge. For me that is positive characteristic because I'm relatively new to mountain biking and if I used clip-ons I would probably die. These pedals are very easy for keeping your feet on them in a variety of situations, turning, standing, sliding, what have you (I think they call this sticky-ness although they are not actually sticky). I wear a size 10.5 shoe and there is plenty of room to move my feet around when needed. These pedals are very light weight. They are much thinner than many of the other flat pedals out there, however they are still very strong and sturdy. And you pay for that. Pedals take a beating if you should hit a rock or something. The adjustable studs are nice, there is a baggie full of washers that come with the pedals so you can adjust the length of the pegs. At first I did not do this and at one point the pedal spikes pieced the pants on the back of my pant leg and tore some skin and I was bleeding quite a bit. Best of all they are red, although I think they come in a variety of colors. The color of the pedals does not match the pictures, at least not for the blue ones I ordered. That being said they are lighter and slimmer than the raceface affect pedals I had prior. Also in the photos it looks like these are cnc'd when in actuality they are castSuper halt.
