Product Description

Product Description On the features side of things, the Metropolis has it all: Fusion In-Mold construction for superior durability, 16 vents with Channeled Ventilation for great air flow, our one-hand adjust GPS fit system, a removable Blade visor, and easy setting Cam-lock levers. The Metropolis also has a few Bell firsts...the in-mold Soft Shell bottom wrap is made of a supple yet durable rubber that protects the helmet's lower from the wear of everyday use. Is rear strap allows riders to add standard flasher lights for better visibility. Amazon.com The Bell Metropolis Life and Style Bike Helmet is constructed with a fusion in-mold microshell, which utilizes the process of bonding the helmet's microshell to its EPS foam layer, rather than forming the two separately and taping them together later. The process provides a sturdier, more solid helmet. This helmet features a SoftShell bottom wrap, made of supple-yet-durable rubber that protects the helmet from the wear of everyday use, and Bell's GPS (Geared Positioning System) fitting method to deliver an easy one-hand adjustment for the maximum in fit and comfort. The Metropolis also features a flasher strap for rear lights, a removable blade visor, and cam-lock levers that make it easy to adjust the straps around your ears. For your comfort, this bicycle helmet includes 16 channeled vents that are specially designed to force cool, fresh air in through the front and around your head, while flushing warm air out of the rear ports. The Metropolis helmet comes in three sizes: small (51-55cm), medium (55-59cm), and large (59-63). Bell's Metropolis helmet weighs 290 grams, and complies with the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission's safety standards for bicycle helmets.Helmet Tips--You Should Always...Wear a helmet when you ride Wear your helmet low in the front to protect the forehead Fasten your buckle and tighten your chin strap Check your adjustments every time you wear your helmet Inspect your helmet regularly for signs of wear or damage Wear a helmet designed for your activity About Bell More world champions have worn Bell Helmets than all other helmet brands combined. From Grand Prix racing through the Indy 500 to Olympic cycling, Bell helmets have played a vital role in protecting sportsmen and women for nearly 50 years. Bell began as a small auto parts store in a suburb of Los Angeles. Growing under the leadership of Roy Richter, Bell became a leader in safety equipment for auto racing, motorcycling, and then bicycling. His commitment to creating great product through a close connection with the sport, along with his trust of and care for the people who worked for him, turned Bell from a one-man operation into a multi-million dollar enterprise. His legacy lives on today in Bell's commitment to racing, quality and innovation.

I like this helmet. It's relatively subdued in appearance compared to most other bike helmets. It's round in back, which is safer in case of an accident. But most of all, I like the accessories which work so well. The rain shield snaps on in a minute once you have it stretched. The mirror provides a fairly wide field of view, and folds away when not needed. However, the best feature is the strap for mounting a blinkie light to the rear of the helmet. Brilliant!! I don't know why nobody did this before. I can't imagine riding at night(which I do every day) without the extra blinkie. Having one at head height helps to identify the rider as a human being. Love the helmet. Accessories, especially the rain shield, can be a bit hard to find, so buy a couple.UPDATE---4/9/07I was hit by a truck on 4/5/07, while commuting to work. I don't remember much about the hit, because I was unconscious for a while, but here's what I've been told happened. I was riding along my normal route, which is a 45mph 2 lane. I only have 1/2 mile on this road before I enter the lightly trafficked suburbs, so I just grin and bear it. On this day, I was hit from behind by a truck. To be accurate, the driver's side mirror HIT ME IN THE BACK OF THE HEAD. I awoke on the ground, bleeding from my elbow, bruised and sore---but no broken bones and NO CONCUSSION. My helmet has a nice big crack in the rear at the 7 o'clock position, but better the helmet than my skull. Good helmet, and the fact that the Metro has more rear coverage than a race helmet helped.UPDATE 8/4/2007I have been using my second Metro for a couple of months now. I purchased the new "safety orange" model. Bell has seen fit to design a high vis model with added reflective material. The helmet shell has reflective tape strips and the chin strap is reflective also. I don't know if all new Metros have the reflective chin strap, but it's a good addition. It is a bit stiff at first, but after breaking in it's much better.
